Michael Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Program, FUNdations, & School Wide
During the school year, Kindergartners will be working on learning the following Reading, Writing, and Language Arts objectives:
- recognition of all upper/lower case letters
- letter sounds
- practice writing all upper/lower case letters
- recognition of color words
- recognition of sight words
- knowledge of rhyming words
- knowledge of words that begin with a given sound
- practice writing first and last name
- phonemic awareness skills
- how a book works
- be able to retell a story including story elements
- express written ideas and some details about a topic or a book when expressing an opinion, explaining information or telling a story
- applies grade level grammar such as spaces in between words, capitalization and ending punctuation
- takes turns speaking and listening to others including asks/answers questions and tells about a topic, text or event
- uses key vocabulary acquired through conversations and texts
Bridges Math Currriculum
During the school year, Kindergartners will be working on learning the following math objectives:
- recognition of numbers 0 – 20
- counting independently to 100 (and beyond) by any given number
- practice writing numbers 0 – 20
- understanding the concept of first, second, etc.
- explore, make and extend a given pattern
- knowledge of left and right
- exploration of positional words (between, above, below, etc.)
- identification of shapes
- addition and subtraction of facts 0 – 10 with manipulatives
- explore and make a graph
- match objects to numerals 0 – 20
- compare numbers 1-10 using greater than, less than or equal to
- compose and decompose numbers from 11-19 into “tens” and “ones”
- decompose numbers up to 10 in more than one way
- finds the number that makes 10 given any number less than 10
